AEG Representative Projects in Detail
On the following projects, AEG was the prime consultant, except for the Washington State Departments of Fish & Wildlife and Parks & Recreation, where AEG was a sub consultant. Contact information is available in the overview of representative projects.
Industrial Petroleum Distributors, Olympia, Washington -
AEG removed seven above ground storage tanks and forty 55-gallon drums of toxic chemicals from a former petroleum distribution site in Olympia. The tanks ranged from 49,000 gallons to 19,000 gallons, the largest tank being thirty feet tall and twenty feet in diameter. Over 140,000 gallons of product had to be characterized by phase and disposed of appropriately. Additionally, the tanks were perched on the top of a 40-foot hill that only had access from the front, a 40-degree slope. AEG built a road to the top of the hill and developed an erosion control plan to control the resulting erosion hazard. The site is currently awaiting phase II delineation, eventually leading to remediation. The site also involves offsite assessment and remediation.
Minatree Tire Fire, Rochester, Washington -
A tire fire involving an estimated 100,000 used tires left the ground contaminated with high levels of zinc and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons. AEG, working closely with the Department of Ecology, was contracted to remediate the affected soils. After over 700 tons of soil was shipped offsite for thermal destruction, the site has received a "No Further Action" ruling from the Department of Ecology. Presently the land is being used for grazing horses.
Gas Station, Silver Creek, Washington -
During a Phase I Environmental assessment for a proposed sale of property, contamination existing from prior tanks was suspected. AEG performed a phase II delineation on the site and discovered groundwater contamination. The site has multiple soil types and layers of bedrock dispersing the contamination. The site is now in the remediation phase.
Former Shell Station, Lacey, Washington -
AEG conducted a delineation study and developed a remediation plan for a site that was formerly a gas station. AEG performed the remediation of the site, which included excavation and disposal of 800 tons of contaminated soil and installation of five monitoring wells to assess the groundwater. The site is now on its last quarter of compliance monitoring.
Gas Station Compliance Upgrade/Cleanup, Shelton, Washington -
AEG conducted an underground storage tank compliance upgrade and discovered contaminated soils. On-site bioremediation (aeration) was chosen for soil treatment, based on cost effectiveness, the amount of contaminated soil and space availability.
Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife -
As a part of the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife phase IV underground storage tank upgrade program, AEG performed site assessments for multiple underground storage tank removals across Washington State. Some sites had soil contamination resulting from leaking underground storage tanks for which AEG developed remediation design specifications and supervised remediation activities.
Washington Department of Parks & Recreation -
The Washington Department of Parks & Recreation is in the process of replacing underground storage tanks at their park facilities with aboveground storage tanks. AEG has completed site assessments and tank closures for 17 of these sites across the state.
Biological Hazardous Waste Clean-ups along Interstate 5, Seattle, Washington -
Contracted by the Washington Department of Transportation, AEG conducted clean-up operations of biological hazardous waste along parts of Interstate 5 in the Seattle area as a part of preparing for various maintenance operations along the interstate. This project included the preparation of Health and Safety Plans and detailed Work Plans for each site.
Asbestos Surveys, Port of Olympia, Washington -
As part of expansion for the Port of Olympia, AEG performed asbestos surveys on 18 houses slated for demolition. AEG then coordinated the abatement of asbestos containing materials discovered in the surveys.
Multiple Property Assessments, Private Clients, Washington State -
AEG completed over 35 property assessments throughout Western Washington. Properties ranging in size and complexity and included multi-story office buildings, gas stations, industrial manufacturing facilities and strip malls. Some sites required characterization, for which delineation studies were quickly implemented.
