Environmental Investigations - Environmental Investigation of Flaming Geyser Phase II
A Phase II Environmental Site Assessment is only recommended when further investigation is warranted by the Phase I Assessment.

In Phase II, AEG undertakes a detailed scientific analysis of a number of hazard factors.

Phase II covers:

  • Soil and groundwater samples
  • Surface hydrology
  • Subsurface geology and hydrogeology
  • Future contamination potential
  • Cleanup feasibility

Soil and/or groundwater samples are collected and analyzed by an independent laboratory according to Washington Department of Ecology protocols.

Surface hydrology, groundwater, soils, subsurface geology and hydrogeology data are incorporated to determine the site-specific feasibility of cleanup and/or potential for future contamination.

The results are then integrated with the appropriate regulations and guidelines to provide a detailed Phase II Client Report.

The Phase II Client Report fully documents the results of the scientific analyses, our assessment of these findings, and a further summary of available options.

If the testing in Phase II indicates that maximum contamination levels have been exceeded, then remediation is required immediately to eliminate the problem/s and minimize future liability.

Where such action is essential, AEG proceeds to the next level, a full-service Phase III Remediation Contract.

Environmental Remediation - Phase III
In Phase III a logical and thorough remediation design is developed, discussed with the client to disclose all foreseeable ramifications, and submitted to the Department of Ecology for approval.

AEG then co-ordinates with DOE to answer any supplementary questions related to scientific, technical and site-specific issues.

More importantly, AEG is experienced in expediting progress of remediation designs through the necessary official channels, and under the Phase III Contract, will organize and oversee all aspects of the actual work.

This ensures that the work is done to the client's satisfaction, and according to DOE requirements.

AEG arranges contracts and sub-contract work and supervises such work in a professional manner. All hazards and potential liabilities revealed in Phases I and II are now addressed and remedied.

Aside from ensuring that the remediation work meets the required legal and environmental standards, AEG constantly keeps an eye on such issues as cost containment and completion by deadline (as specified in the various contracts involved under Phase III).

To Summarize:

Environmental hazards can be categorized as "hidden" "apparent" and "potential."

Any of these presents a challenge that must be assessed and addressed in order to eliminate or minimize possible existing or future compliance or litigation issues.

For these reasons, AEG's Phase III Client Report is a very important document.

The Phase III Client Report (coupled with those from Phase I and Phase II) provides the client with an historical summary of all investigative work, scientific data and analysis, discussions with appropriate authorities, remediation proposals presented, approvals obtained, and action taken to ensure the site has been thoroughly investigated and necessary remediation work undertaken to bring it into compliance.
